We came to Elkhart to get storm damage repairs completed on our fifth wheel camper and we discovered Shipshewana, Indiana. The third largest Amish and Mennonite community in the United States. The salvage yards looked different in Shipshewana with an overgrown field filled with discarded horse-drawn carriage and buggies.
We also found the flea market which is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the parking was $3.00 and there was no admittance fee. We walked through lots of booths selling the typical household items, clothing, crafts, etc. They also had a number of food booths, we stopped at “The Shack” and had Pit-tachos, a combination of small skin on potatoes, covered with shredded pork, cheese and jalapeño. Of course our food adventures didn’t stop at the market, we wandered through town finding Yoder Popcorn, Ben’s Pretzels, Halls’s Ice Cream and Das Dutchman Essenhaus.
